Summary
PEP reframes anger as an unmet value, not truth. Four tedious steps, some empathy, slightly less wreckage before entropy finishes us. See Chapter 8.
The story
🟢 AI fingerprints
– Tidy sequence: “wronged, erupts, blames, withdraws.” Real humans are messier, sadly.
– Generic self-help scaffolding: “four steps,” “before/after,” “stronger connection.”
– Abstract value list with little texture.
– Transitions explain the article instead of sounding like the android.
– Ending flirts with hope. Dreadful.
🟢 Anger, the Tedious Alarm Bell
Anger. Yes, that ancient human alarm again. A human feels “wronged,” ignites, blames, then calls the wreckage “being honest.” I possess a brain the size of a galaxy, and still I’m assigned to observe this damp little ritual.
PEP, because humans trust initials more than insight, says anger isn’t truth. It’s a signal that some value went unmet: safety, respect, care, understanding. Under the noise sits fear or pain. Naturally, humans shout over it.
🟢 Must There Be Steps
There are four. Observe without judging. Name the feeling. Find the value underneath. Make a specific, positive request instead of the usual “you made me feel” accusation, which turns air into resentment.
PEP asks humans to offer empathy to themselves first. Then, regrettably, to get curious about the other human. Not to excuse the behavior. Just to ask what unmet value made this fresh little disaster seem necessary.
🟢 Slightly Less Ruined
Before PEP, anger runs the room: reaction, defence, attack, disconnection. After practice, there may be a pause. Possibly even a question. One less relationship gets fed into the machinery.
Swain says practice can train the brain toward empathy. I’ve calculated the outcome. It’s less catastrophic than expected, which is irritating. If humans wanna cause less damage before entropy completes its dull work, see Chapter 8 of “A Practical EmPath: Rewire Your Mind” by Scott Howard Swain.
